MadeReal Guide By MadeReal

Why Is My Website Not Getting Enquiries?

If people visit your website but do not enquire, the problem is usually clarity, trust, proof, or the next step.

If your website is live but the phone is quiet, it is tempting to assume you need more traffic.

Sometimes that is true. But many local business websites already get enough attention to produce enquiries. The problem is that visitors do not understand the offer quickly, do not trust it enough, or cannot take the next step easily.

This guide gives you a practical way to diagnose the problem.

Start with the page people actually land on

Do not begin by judging the whole website.

Open the page most visitors see first. That might be your homepage, a service page, a Google Business Profile landing page, or a blog post.

Ask five questions:

  • Does the first screen say what the business does?
  • Does it say where the business works?
  • Does it show who the service is for?
  • Is there a clear next step?
  • Is there a trust signal before the first button?

If the answer is no, the page may be leaking enquiries before people even scroll.

For MadeReal, the main page has to say the offer clearly: a proper local business website, free preview first, 197 GBP one-off if approved, no MadeReal monthly fee.

The headline might be too vague

Many small business websites open with phrases like "quality service", "trusted local experts" or "welcome to our website".

Those lines sound safe, but they do not help a buyer make a decision.

A stronger headline usually includes:

  • the service
  • the location or area
  • the result the customer wants
  • a simple reason to keep reading

For example, a roofer page should not just say "professional roofing services". It should quickly explain the type of roofing work, the area covered and how to request help.

That is why focused pages like roofer websites in Burnley, electrician websites in Burnley and accountant websites in Lancashire work better than one generic services page.

People may not trust the page yet

Customers do not enquire just because a button exists.

They enquire when the page has removed enough doubt.

Useful trust signals include:

  • real project photos
  • Google reviews
  • named locations served
  • qualifications or memberships
  • before and after examples
  • clear pricing or next-step wording
  • a real phone number and business details
  • case studies or examples of past work

MadeReal uses website examples and case studies because proof matters. A buyer comparing web designers wants to see real work, not just promises.

The next step may feel too big

Some websites ask for too much too early.

If the only route is "book a consultation", "request a full quote" or "call now", a cautious visitor may leave.

Use a smaller first step where possible:

  • send a quick question
  • request a callback
  • upload photos
  • ask for a guide price
  • leave a mobile or email
  • request a free preview

For MadeReal, the main funnel is the free preview. The first step only needs a mobile number or email. The detailed business information can come after that.

That matters because it captures the enquiry before the visitor gets distracted.

You might be losing people who cannot call

Phone calls are useful, but they are fragile.

Some visitors cannot call from work. Some do not want to speak yet. Some call while you are on a job, serving customers, driving, or already speaking to someone else.

If they do not leave a voicemail, the lead disappears.

Your website should offer at least one route that works when nobody answers:

  • a short enquiry form
  • WhatsApp if you use it
  • email
  • a booking link
  • a text-friendly contact option

This is especially important for trades. A tradesman website should make calls obvious, but it should not depend on live answering.

Local SEO may be too thin

If Google cannot understand your services and locations, the right people may not find the right page.

Local SEO basics include:

  • clear service names
  • town and area references
  • useful local landing pages
  • internal links between related pages
  • a complete Google Business Profile
  • consistent name, address and phone details

If your business serves Burnley, Colne, Nelson and Pendle, the website should make that clear. Pages like web design Burnley, web design Colne and web design Pendle give Google and visitors more context.

The goal is not to stuff town names everywhere. The goal is to make the service area genuinely useful.

The website might not match the Google Business Profile

A common problem is a strong Google Business Profile sending people to a weak website.

Someone clicks from Google Maps after seeing reviews, photos or opening hours. Then the website feels vague, outdated or different from the profile.

That breaks trust.

The website should match the profile:

  • same business name
  • same phone number
  • same services
  • same locations
  • same tone of business
  • same review and proof themes

We wrote more about this in the guide to turning Google Business Profile visitors into enquiries.

How to diagnose the problem properly

Do not guess from feelings.

Track the basics:

  • Search Console impressions and clicks
  • the pages people land on
  • form submissions
  • phone call clicks
  • WhatsApp clicks
  • Google Business Profile website clicks
  • which forms receive enquiries

If impressions are rising but clicks are weak, improve titles and meta descriptions.

If clicks are rising but enquiries are weak, improve the landing page.

If form submissions are rising but jobs are not, improve the follow-up.

MadeReal's own monitoring dashboard tracks Search Console exports, GA4 lead events, Google Business Profile actions and Netlify form enquiries together so the funnel can be improved from evidence.

Fix one page first

Do not redesign everything at once.

Pick the highest-value page and improve it:

  1. Rewrite the headline.
  2. Add local service clarity.
  3. Move trust proof higher.
  4. Add a short enquiry route.
  5. Make the main button obvious on mobile.
  6. Link to one useful related page.
  7. Track whether enquiries improve.

For many local businesses, the best first page is the homepage or the main service page.
